Cornerstone Fellowship - 3/10/13 (Morning Service)

Acts 2:44 -

  • Viewing church as new family
  • Christmas time generosity - we should have that all year 
  • We know that we are saved when we stop being selfish
  • Stop buying, start selling excess to help others
  • Luke 6:38 - God's generosity is the reward for our generosity
  • Luke 12:16-21 - fools/hoarding
  • When we do good things to others we are doing good things to him (Matthew)
  • When denied these good deeds, he doesn't want eternal life with you (goats)
  • Matthew 19 - wealthy man won't give up his money - sad ending
  • Luke 19:1 - Zacheus - gives up his wealth - happy ending
  • In serving, we do our best imitation of Jesus
  • How much is really enough?

Acts 2 -

  • RBR, then be saved
  • 41 - Holy Spirit set up the group, the message, and changed the people
  • Holy Spirit allows us to do something previously overwhelming or impossible
    • There to help us all the time
  • Church/Holy Spirit refreshes and re-hydrates us
  • 42 - Continued with apostles doctrine, fellowship, breaking of bread, and prayers (in a group)
  • 43 - Fear/awe
  • 44 - Sold things and divided to those who needed

  • Acts 2:14 (all ch 2)
  • Church = gathering of believers, not the building itself
  • Genesis 11
  • People know different "languages", some might not speak "bible"
  • Holy Spirit can help you say things in the right way, in the right "language"
    • Hard to let Holy Spirit control our mouths and what we say
  • Everyone can receive the Holy Spirit - it is the great equalizer through the church (21)
  • 22, 25
  • Claiming deity was a capital offense - how they got Jesus
  • 30, 34, 36 - King David talking about Jesus
  • Holy Spirit is the key - church supposed to produce disciples
  • 37 - Results
  • 38 - What to do next
    • RBR - Repent, Get Baptized, Receive
    • These are NOT optional

  • Someone who is phony or fake
  • Pretends to be something they are not
  • Pretends to have good beliefs or feelings but behaves otherwise
  • Double life = sick
  • hot or cold, no lukewarm faith

Genesis 32 -

  1. Sends his stuff away (God doesn't care).
  2. Wrestles all night (God put up resistance to see if Jacob really wanted it).
  3. God cheats (hip) (gives Jacob some of his cheating).
  4. God says "Let me go" (God won't force you) (God doesn't need us, he wants us).
  5. "Not unless you bless me" (wants a blessing that he earns, not one he cheats for).
  6. Gives him a new name (God lets him "start over").
